The Santos de Cartier is an exquisite timepiece with a strong sense of history. The original piece was created by Louis Cartier for his friend, the famed Brazilian aviation pioneer Albert Santos Dumont, who wished to know the time in flight without having to fumble for his pocket watch. Thus, Cartier designed a piece especially for him. It was the first true gent’s wristwatch – as wristwatches were at the time designed only for ladies – and set a style standard for many years to come.
Because Cartier promised Santos that his watch would be exclusive, it wasn’t until 1911 that the range of Cartier Santos watches was launched for public purchase – but it found instant popularity, and quickly became an iconic piece, as it remains to this day.
Today, the Santos de Cartier range encompasses a number of collections, including the Cartier Santos Demoiselle, Cartier Santos-Dumont and Santos 100.
