Cristiano Ronaldo Joins TAG Heuer as Ambassador

Swiss luxury horological brand TAG Heuer has always surrounded itself with some of the most vibrant individuals in the world of high-class sports. Current ambassadors include WTA career Grand Slam holder Maria Sharapova, previous Formula One World Driver’s Champion Jenson Button and every member of Oracle Team USA; the crew who historically won the 2013 America’s Cup. Former members of this exclusive club read like a veritable roll call of sporting greats, including Tiger Woods and Ayrton Senna, and when one factors in additional names from the celebrity A-list world (such as Leonardo DiCaprio) it becomes clear just how illustrious a gathering  TAG Heuer’s assemblage of ambassadors actually is.

Despite the lavish prestige already attached to TAG Heuer, this avant-garde brand is always seeking to expand its portfolio of associates, and according to their latest news footballing icon Cristiano Ronaldo has now been attracted into their ranks. The partnership has been agreed upon in the long term, and Ronaldo has been generous in his praise of the TAG Heuer brand name. He has particularly emphasised TAG Heuer’s commitment to sports; a fact that has been extremely evident for many years through watch collections like the TAG Heuer Formula 1 and TAG Heuer Monaco families.  Additionally, Ronaldo has acknowledged the willingness of TAG Heuer to go against more ‘accepted’ horological trends, and has declared that their desire to ‘totally change the game’ mirrors his own determination.

From TAG Heuer’s perspective, this represents their first foray into the popular sphere of football, which is curious when you consider that this celebrated brand has been dedicated to serving alongside premier sporting occasions for decades. For example, TAG Heuer’s famous relationship with Formula 1 dates back to the 1970s, and their alliance with skiing – albeit less well publicised – stretches all the way back to the 1920s. As such, football signifies one of the few sports that has been conspicuously absent from TAG Heuer’s sporting coalitions, and TAG Heuer CEO, Stéphane Linder, has stated his delight that they have proudly entered the world of football alongside ‘its number 1 icon and most powerful player’.

TAG Heuer always strives to forge its own legacy within the horological world, and never shies away from ‘world firsts’, as this latest partnership ably attests. TAG Heuer watches are frequently the most innovative of creations, such as the revolutionary belt driven tourbillion (see below) that they have recently pioneered at Baselworld 2014, and this free spirited approach promises exemplary things when aligned with the exhilarating world of football. Here at Banks Lyon, we are a registered stockist for TAG Heuer, and so we await future news from this Swiss brand to see whether any new releases adopt a more football focused theme.

Our existing collection of TAG Heuer watches is among the most comprehensive you could ever wish to see, and so if you find yourself attracted by this flamboyant watchmaking company we welcome you to get in touch. Our professional team is always available to contact by calling 01524 38 48 58, and we’ll be pleased to discuss whatever enquiry you might have.
