Gents Watch of the Week: Bremont ALT1-B2 GMT Chronograph Watch

Born in combat, the stunning Bremont ALT1-B2 GMT Chronograph is now available for purchase at Banks Lyon. Initially designed and delivered to the elite B2 ‘Stealth Bomber Aircrew in 2012, the ALT1-B2 more than fulfils Bremont’s legacy; tested beyond endurance.

The unparalleled Bremont design boasts a diamond-like-carbon (DLC) coated stainless steel finish, engineered to withstand the toughest of conditions. The steel is subjected to 2000 vickers, 9 times more than a standard stainless steel watch, and the anti-reflective coating on the sapphire crystal is built to survive the shock and g-forces of a pilot’s ejection seat.

The watch combines the stealthy aesthetic of the B2 with the essential Bremont readability, hence the oversized yet faded Arabic numerals on the watch face. The black-metal dial with Bremont’s patented Super-LumiNova technology ensures clarity in all conditions, yet remains integral to the overall covertness of the watch, and even with 3 dials the face remains clear and legible.

The calf-leather bracelet has been vigorously stress-tested to ensure that it doesn’t stretch or fray, always remaining comfortable against the wrist. Speaking on the decision to launch the ALT1-B2 to the civilian market, Bremont co-founder Nick English said, ‘The B2 watch was a huge success with the Squadron, it also received rapturous applause from civilian watch aficionados so we knew there was a strong demand for general release version, hence the introduction of the ALT1B2 Chronograph.’

Nick founded Bremont with his brother Giles in 2002. The origins of the company can be traced back to two unique events, both poignant in their own right. Whilst flying with his engineer and air enthusiast father Euan in 1995, Nick was involved in an accident that saw the plane fall from the sky. Nick broke 30 bones in his body. Tragically, Euan was killed.

Then, in the late 1990s, Nick and Giles were flying over France when they were forced to make an emergency landing in a nearby field. With the help of a local farmer, they stored the plane in a nearby barn, and the brothers spent the night with the farmer. They found that the man bore striking similarities to their late father, particularly in his interests and previous work as a gifted engineer. The farmer’s name was Antoine Bremont, and the rest, as they say, is history.

Of the world’s luxury watchmakers, Bremont are British through and through. They have recently begun the process of relocating much of their production from Switzerland to London, making them one of the only wholly British engineered watch brands in the world. The ALT1-B2 proudly displays its heritage on the 6pm dial.

Here at Banks Lyon, the ATL1-B2 is just one of the new Bremont watches we’ve added to our collection.
