Time Running Out For Button

Former Formula 1 World Champion Jenson Button  admitted it would ‘take a miracle’ for him to make the podium at last weekend’s British Grand Prix, and his chances are looking equally as slim for tomorrow’s German Grand Prix at the Nurburgring.

Button, a TAG Heuer ambassador since 2011, has experienced a disappointing 2013 season thus far, having not even found a place on the podium in any of the opening 8 races. Indeed, Button has never achieved a podium at Silverstone in 13 years of trying. It has been a sore year all round for British drivers and teams, with only 3 podium finishes achieved by the 4 drivers (Lewis Hamilton’s three 3rd place finishes) and both British teams, McLaren and Williams, languishing in 6th and 9th respectively in the Constructer’s Championship.

Button hopes his fortunes will improve as the season continues, however he it is likely that he will have to reconcile himself with mid-table finish and redouble his efforts for next year. Though the all-consuming environment takes up much of his time, Button has spoken previouly about his love of TAG Heuer Watches, ‘Watches bring out the boy in me. The last time I visited I couldn’t resist walking off with a prototype for the new TAG Heuer Carrera 1887. I got it home and realised it had no internals! It was just a shell, basically. But it looked so cool that I couldn’t resist wearing it. Now I’ve been presented with a complimentary one!’

His love affair with TAG Heuer began with the first victory of his career, the Hungarian Grand Prix in 2006. It is, however, the famous TAG Heuer Monaco Steve McQueen, as worn by the actor in the 1971 film Le Mans, that Button sees as the stand-out watch in the collection. As if this stunning piece required any extra attraction for a racing driver, it was also the favoured watch of legendary driver Ayrton Senna.

With 11 races left this season, including the site of his first win in Hungary still to come, Button will be looking to climb up the rankings and re-establish himself on the podium and the number one British driver. Emulating his on track success might be something many of his fans can only dream of achieving, but to share in Button’s love of TAG Heuer is easier than many think.
