Gents Watch of the Week: Rolex GMT Master II Watch

For our first Rolex in the series, we present the brand new Rolex GMT Master II Watch as unveiled at this year’s Baselworld Festival. The new design sports a two-tone blue and black dial that makes for an impressive aesthetic, recalling the rich depths of the deep midnight sea and the duality of night and day.

It’s now eight years since the GMT Master II celebrated its 50th anniversary, having long since become a flagship timepiece for the brand. With the release of the latest edition, the Oyster Perpetual GMT Master II, Rolex have made some noticeable upgrades, both in terms of watch design and manufacture. Specifically, the new Cerachrom bezel insert is obtained by a unique process developed in-house by Rolex, allowing the distinctive midnight blue and jet black bezel to be sculpted as a single piece.

The GMT Master II combines the very best in functionality and exquisite ocular horology in producing the perfect blend of the practical and the stylish. Mirroring the two-tone bezel, the evolutionary adaptability of this watch ensures that it impresses at any time of the day, wherever you are in the world. The case comprises of hardened 904L steel, primarily used in the aviation and aerospace industry, where maximum resistance to corrosion is essential. Being a superalloy, 904L is extremely resistant, highly polishable, and maintains its beauty in even the harshest environments.

This robustness is what makes the GMT Master II the preferred choice for the discerning traveller. Resilient, with an enduring beauty that matches its tough outer case, and the versatility to display different time zones, the GMT Master II is the quintessential travellers’ watch, the preeminent timepiece in globetrotting.

That toughness is complemented by the security of its stunning Oysterlock folding clasp, a design exclusive to Rolex, that prevents accidental opening whilst maintaining maximum comfort. The clasp seals shut the beautiful Oyster bracelet, a true synergy of form and function of almost alchemical proportions. Exuding both style and sophistication, the bracelet goes beyond a mere carriage for the dial, but is rather an extension of the watch itself, thus becoming an extension of the wrist, and a fundamental part of who you are and what it means to be the owner of the GMT Master II.

Inside the 40mm case you will find a black lacquered dial on top of which the highly legible Chromalight appliques and hands sit, allowing for ultimately readability in any conditions. These strike the shaped numerals with unerring precision, with small discs signifying the numbers, apart from at the 6 and 9 position where baton numerals sit, the triangle at the 12 positions, and the date aperture at 3.

Inside, the calibre 3186, a self-winding mechanical movement developed entirely in house by Rolex, powers the GMT Master II. The 3186 is COSC certified, a recognition certified for only the top 3% high-precision watches in the world.

The GMT Master II is just one of the Rolex watches we have at Banks Lyon as official Rolex watch stockists, and can be yours today for just a 10% deposit and £892.50 per month over 6 months.
