 
The Omega Speedmaster Darkside of the Moon is an old favourite on our blog, and we’ve showcased this superb timepiece several times over the last few months. Held at the Grand Théâtre de Genève on Halloween night, the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève ceremony bestowed the Revival Watch Prize upon the Speedmaster; an accolade which was enthusiastically accepted by Omega president Stephen Urquhart. The Revival prize is only on offer to those wristwatches that can claim to be ‘contemporary re-introductions’ or ‘reinterpretations’ of a true horological icon. Quite naturally, the Darkside of the Moon fulfils such criteria with aplomb, harking back to the pioneering Speedmaster Professional – worn by Apollo 8 astronauts – as it does.
Of course, part of the strength of the Darkside of the Moon is that it melds this heritage with an all-new aesthetical and indeed technical theme, as the all-black ceramic appearance combines with the first in-house Co-Axial chronograph movement to create a genuinely memorable timepiece. Just as the Apollo 8 astronauts were the first humans to set eyes upon the real ‘dark side of the moon’, so this Omega Speedmaster represents a similar noteworthy feat in ocular horology. It’s scarcely any wonder that the Darkside of the Moon is still receiving praise so many months after it was unveiled.
