We’re always delighted to come across exciting and vibrant new timepieces, especially if they’re limited edition models, and so today we’re especially pleased to be bringing you the latest chapter in the ongoing saga of the prestigious Breitling Navitimer. The watch in question is a limited edition timepiece that we elected to order at Baselworld 2014, and only 1000 examples of these prestigious Navitimer pieces are ever going to be made. Our own wristwatch is labelled as number 376, and this highly exclusive limited edition Breitling 01 Panamerican watch is set to represent the newest face of the Navitimer legend.
The Navitimer is one of Breitling’s longest standing creations, and is one of the most venerated of all mechanical chronograph watches; especially among those that are themed as objects of admiration for aviation enthusiasts. The black dial of the Navitimer has always been one of its most classic features, and so Breitling have daringly decided to equip this brand new model with a bronze dial that is a supreme display of bravura. The other fundamentals of the Navitimer still remain though, such as the recessed trio of counters and the circular slide rule, so the timepiece retains its sense of instant recognition.
Breitling typically allow horological connoisseurs to access a variety of straps and bracelet options for each and every one of their watches, and the Navitimer 01 Panamerican is no exception to this rule. Our own Navitimer is augmented by a brown full grain Alligator strap, and this rich coloration, along with the paler tone of the linear stitching, perfectly complements the steel and bronze hues of the case and the dial. The timepiece is secured by a steel tang-type buckle, so the fit has been optimised to be supremely comfortable. However, the version showcased on Breitling’s own website (see below) looks equally as superb, being outlined in gloriously burnished steel, and you would expect nothing less than these exemplary aesthetics where the Navitimer is concerned.
Like all Navitimers, the Panamerican is powered by an in-house produced Breitling Caliber 01 movement, and this high-class mechanism utilises a selfwinding function to enable the wristwatch to be reliably wound just by being worn. It is not fitting for such a spectacularly intricate movement to be confined within an enclosed case though, with opportunities to view it seldom being presented, and so to combat this concern Breitling have fitted the caseback with a generously proportioned sapphire crystal exhibition caseback. A triumph of both beauty and substance, this movement has Breitling’s signature 70 hour power reserve and comes with a robust 5 year warranty, so the status of this model as a collector’s item in no way besmirches its functionality as an eminently practical timepiece.
