We’ve already taken the time to showcase one of the wristwatches that is known to be a favourite with new TAG Heuer ambassador Cara Delevingne, but the eagle-eyed persons among you may have noticed that the TAG Heuer website lists a second timepiece as one of her preferred designs as well. Because of that, we thought it was only fair to give both of these watches some time in the limelight, so we’re now going to look at this second wristwatch; a member of the TAG Heuer Carrera family.
In many ways, this is a more usual feminine wristwatch in terms of aesthetics, as the colour scheme is eminently light in appearance. Such a theme is enabled by a combination of steel and ceramic materials, and, although this timepiece doesn’t use diamonds after the fashion of Delevingne’s primary choice, it makes use of a classic mother-of-pearl dial instead. A long-standing fixture in the world of ladies’ horology, this is a very welcome inclusion, yet it can also be swapped out for a black or silver ‘azurage’ effect dial (see below) should the owner desire. Regardless of the chosen colour scheme, the finished effect is indubitably luxurious, and is guaranteed to make a memorable statement.
However, it’s not only things like mother-of-pearl that can be relied upon to provide a softer side to this wristwatch, as the polished bezel is also on hand in this respect, as are a selection of hand-applied indexes that are painstakingly facetted and polished. A scratch-resistant sapphire caseback is incorporated as well to hint at the more technical side of this watch, although you may have already gathered that from the emblem that states ‘automatic’ at the centre of the dial. Before we move on to the movement though, it’s worth saying that all the usual augmentations like an anti-reflective sapphire crystal front and a 100 metre water resistance are in place, so the watch wants for little.
Where the movement is concerned, this is a more obvious work of traditional ‘watchmaking’ than something like our aforementioned quartz Formula 1 chronograph, as it is both mechanical and fully automatic. Boasting a rapid date correction and a 40 hour power reserve, this movement is no slouch by anyone’s standards, and is subjected to the same series of 60 rigorous tests that are applied to all of TAG Heuer’s wristwatches. In terms of sheer reliability, TAG Heuer is a real leader in the industry, and, when combined with the sleek appearance, this wristwatch is a winner.
Like Delevingne’s favourite Tag Heuer Formula 1 watch, this Carrera conforms to a ‘safety push-button’ design on the bracelet, resulting in a very secure clasp that can be relied upon not to fail. Less risky than the Formula 1 it may be, but this is nonetheless an exemplary timepiece in terms of unadulterated style, which makes it even more appropriate for TAG Heuer’s newest ambassador. Don’t make the mistake of thinking that it’s a limited release though, intended purely for TAG Heuer’s personal associates, as this TAG Heuer Carrera ladies’ bracelet watch is available today at Banks Lyon Jewellers.
