A look at the Breitling Transocean Limited Edition

All Breitling lovers know that the brand is famous for its chunky, aviator style watches whose distinct features can be recognised anywhere, so when Breitling introduced the Transocean in 2010 there was a cry of joy from vintage and classic watch collectors everywhere.

Drawing on the styles of the 1950’s and 1960’s the Breitling Transocean Chronograph Limited Edition emulates the design of the original Transocean. First released in 1958 the sleek and understated design caught the eye of those who would never normal gravitate to Breitling’s large case sizes and chunky bracelets. With its classic, uncluttered dial, and three hands today’s Transocean reinterprets the 1958 piece with understated elegance.

The elegant design of the 43mm case, with its slightly bevelled polished bezel and classic round push pieces lend an almost vintage feel to the watch. The 18ct gold ‘B’ on the dial nods to the original Breitling logo that served the brand for many years – another feature that highlights the meticulous attention to detail from the brand.

The applied hour markers and large ‘baton’ style straight line hands are highlighted by a luminescent glow that although subtle, when the lights are off emit more than enough light for one to tell the time easily.

The Breitling Transocean is equipped with the Caliber B01 movement – a high performing self-winding chronograph movement that is entirely developed and produced within the Breitling workshop. This is the third watch from the brand that is powered by the BO1 movement. 100% Swiss made this watch also goes through the rigorous COSC testing to ensure its unfailing performance.

The water resistancy of this watch is 100m; far better than the 30m offered by the Navitimer. The mesh bracelet available for this watch also lends itself to be used in all conditions – other than deep-sea diving of course!

Limited to 2000 pieces in the steel and 200 in the Rose gold, this watch is distinguished from the non limited edition Transocean by the sapphire crystal open case back that displays the movement inside. The watch’s individual number is engraved on the side of the case; in our case this is no. 1976/2000.
