As one of the most popular watch brands that we have in store, we never need any excuse to discuss the workmanship of Breitling, but, given the undisputable fact that they are such an active figure in the world of ocular horology, they make it incredibly easy for us to dwell upon their actions. Sometimes, a new release doesn’t necessarily have to take the form of an entirely fresh design or newly unveiled family of watches, but can instead be a more simple adjustment to an established timepiece. The latest news from Breitling adheres to this pattern, addressing a notable gap in the Colt collection.
Up until now, Colt aficionados could only enjoy a chronograph timepiece with a quartz movement, so, for devotee of mechanical chronographs, there was a definite niche that needed filling. As you might expect, Breitling – the manufacturer with one of the broadest portfolios, appealing to ladies and gents alike – has risen to the challenge admirably, releasing a new Colt automatic chronograph that not only ‘ticks the box’ for a mechanical Colt chronograph, but also introduces a new spirit too.
If you’ve been following our blog, you’ll have seen the introduction of the new Breitling Chronoliner only a week or so ago, and the distinct situation of the sub-dials at 6, 9 and 12 o’clock has now been continued on these new Colt timepieces. As with so many existing Breitling watches, the generously proportioned 44mm case exhibits the four signature ‘rider tabs’; a feature that not only looks truly fantastic, but also has the added benefit of making the timepiece very easy to handle (especially for pilots wearing gloves). With dials that are outlined in either black, blue or silver, a huge amount of customisation is evident even within this one small facet of the Colt range, thereby appealing to the maximum possible audience. It certainly looks as though Breitling has every avenue covered.
Released just in time for the Red Bull Air Race, the new Colt chronograph is doubtless set to become an instant best-seller.
